One Amazon delivery driver came across a burning vehicle and went out of his way to save a dog inside.
Ervin Ruhe, an Amazon employee in California’s Central Valley, came across a shocking sight while making deliveries last month.
According to FOX 40, there was a car on fire on the side of the road, and a distressed man was trying to open the door.
In a statement to FOX 40, an Amazon representative said the man had freed his wife, but the dog was still trapped.
After pulling his truck over to help, Ruhe used his fire extinguisher to push back the flames, which allowed the man to rescue his dog.
“With a fire extinguisher, I put out the fire, and I got a dog out for the owners, and everyone is safe,” Ruhe says in a video, showing the still-burning car, adding that he called 911 and that a fire truck would arrive shortly.
He was hailed as a hero by his employers for saving the dog’s life and helping the family. According to Amazon Delivery Station Senior Regional Manager Navneet Kaur, “We are very thankful to Ervin for going above and beyond to help a community member and their pet during times of distress.” The willingness to go the extra mile and help someone in need is amazing.
In respect of his heroic actions, Ruhe was modest: “I simply wanted to do what was right and be a good citizen,” Ruhe said. “I saw they needed help, so I acted quickly to offer assistance.”
A big thanks to Ervin Ruhe for seeking out this dog and saving its life! You are truly a hero.
