Her life was lonely for a senior horse named Gidget. For at least a decade, she hadn’t seen another animal or human. After living with her owner for 17 years, he became too old to care for her properly. He dumped her oats down a chute. But that was all he could do.
It was another rescue group who contacted Mockingbird Farm Sanctuary, run by a kind woman named Jonell. Despite being 29 years old at the time, Gidget needed a happy place to live her remaining years. She was thrilled to see other animals! Even humans! When she walked off the trailer, Gidget’s eyes lit up.
A miniature horse named Peggy proved an unlikely soulmate for Gidget, as Jonell expected Gidget to seek companionship with other horses like her. According to Jonell, Gidget always purred when she was near Peg, who was also lonely. The two horses shared a bond that would lead to their own little fairy tale. Despite the fact that Gidget was near the end of her life, Jonell and Peggy made sure that she had the best possible ending.
