Cartoons depicted mailmen chasing off or barking at dogs when they approached a house, but in reality, delivery workers make friends with most of the animals they encounter every day.
Several stories of UPS Dogs drivers who not only deliver parcels, but also treat and play with them can be found on the UPS Dogs Facebook page. It was one dog in particular that Katie Newhouser fell in love with during her daily route, but she loves all the dogs she encounters.
It’s no secret that Katie Newhouser loves dogs; she not only has three of her own, but also likes to hang out with the dogs on her delivery route. A pit bull named Leo held a special place in her heart, however. Katie wrote in a Facebook post that he would bark as soon as he saw that I was approaching the condo complex. He would jump into my truck as soon as I stopped.
Tina, Leo’s owner, told Katie her son had found the puppy when he was a puppy and he had to be bottle fed when he was a puppy. In an interview with PEOPLE, Katie said Tina and Leo were very close and did everything together. “Canines never forget those who are close to them,” she said. Katie’s friend Tina, Leo’s mother, passed away in July 2017, bringing Katie some heartbreaking news.
After the shock had passed, she started to worry about what would happen to Leo so she contacted Tina’s son Cannon and inquired if he would take Leo in. As an active duty Marine, Cannon could not take Leo in, according to Animal Channel. Katie decided to adopt Leo herself, even though she already had three dogs. He and his brother Moose have become inseparable. Bailey, their sister, has taken time to adjust, but now they play together … once Leo entered the house, the whole vibe changed.” Katie said.
Her post about Leo’s new home received thousands of comments on the UPS Dogs Facebook page. Leo now lives with someone who adores him, even though he misses his mom Tina.
