For a dog, 16 years is a long time. The fact that a police K9 named Dexter worked for the Pennsboro Police Department in West Virginia for the last two years is an impressive accomplishment. After working with his handler, Chief Travis Snuffer, for 12 years, he has been part of the Pennsboro Police Department for the past two years.
Nevertheless, no retirement would be complete without heartfelt messages from friends and co-workers.
Dexter, best wishes on your retirement!
Dexter and Snuffer are seen in a video posted on TikTok reacting to Dexter’s retirement announcement. They are seated in a police car listening to send-off messages from other humans who have worked with the dog.
“Thank you, K9 Dexter, for all your hard work and making sure your handler made it home safely every evening. Enjoy your retirement. You’ve earned it,” said one person.
As Snuffer listens to the messages, his eyes water, and he looks very proud of his furry friend. Even though Dexter may not understand what they’re saying, he stares right at the camera and seem very emotional.
“On behalf of the Ritchie County Sheriff’s Office, we’d like to congratulate K9 Dexter on his retirement. We thank K9 Dexter for all the service he has given to not only Richie County, but the other agencies he has served. We hope K9 Dexter enjoys his retirement,” another person said.
@kendalls.mama.1128 A small clip of Dexters final call out. He’s the oldest and hardest working drug K9 in the state of West Virginia. TikTok users commented when the emotional video was posted to ask what Dexter’s future held. A poster explained that Dexter had lived with Snuffer for years, so he would be staying with him after retirement. He will, however, now have the chance to experience life like a normal dog.
Before Dexter’s retirement, the Ritchie County Sheriff’s Office of West Virginia posted an official statement:
“The Ritchie County Sheriff’s Office would like to congratulate K9 Dexter of the Pennsboro Police Department on his retirement. Dexter was Chief Snuffer’s oldest K9. Dexter has been a tremendous asset to both his handlers and any other officers who have needed his assistance. We are all very grateful for his service and hope he has a relaxing retirement. Chief Snuffer has made it known that he plans to give Dexter a retirement anyone would enjoy.“
One TikTok video shows Dexter enjoying his retirement. As a reward for completing tasks like finding drugs, he used to get toys. Now, he gets to play with toys as much as he wants, and he certainly deserves it. It’s heartwarming to see his smile!
