There is nothing worse than losing a pet, but there is nothing better than finding them again after a long absence.
After a car crash, one woman’s beloved golden retriever went missing – but when the dog was finally found, it was the “best day of [her] life.”
Gunner, a golden retriever, was riding in the back seat of Hannah Smith’s vehicle, according to WRTV.
She recalled to WRTV that Hannah’s car spun out and it flipped after colliding with another vehicle. Hannah was only reportedly bruised from the accident, but she realized she had lost Gunner.
Hannah was worried about the health and safety of the golden retriever after the accident. It is thought he escaped through a broken window after being scared off by the accident.
“I have raised him through and through,” Hannah said, saying she raised him from a 5-week-old puppy. “He’s just a ball of lovingness as every Golden retriever is and he’s a big scaredy cat, most importantly. I know if he’s alive, he is terrified,he cries and screams if I take him to a car wash.”
The situation was compounded by Gunner’s inability to obtain the prescription medication he was prescribed following his surgery two weeks ago.
Hannah shared Gunner’s story on social media and placed flyers around the area.
She wrote on Facebook that Gunner was “safe and exhausted” after a woman found him hiding under a downed tree while walking her dogs on Sunday.
“The best day of my life!” Hannah wrote, thanking all the people who helped her search for Gunner: “Thank you all from the bottom of my soul.” She received help from locals in the community, but days passed with no sign of Gunner.
Thankfully, Hannah told WRTV that Gunner was not seriously injured, regardless of his dirtiness and minor scrapes. She said he received a bath and medications, and that he now has a good night’s sleep.
“He’s going to sleep great!” she said
Our thanks go out to everyone who helped find Gunner and we’re so glad he’s back at home!
