During Herschel’s first five years of life, he endured a lot of hardship. He was chained up in a dirt-filled backyard for most of that time. After trying to eat through the metal chain in his zeal for freedom, the dog’s teeth were severely worn down when rescuers found him.

The dog was given the care and medical attention he sorely needed by Michelson Founding Animals after being surrendered to them by Herschel’s owner.
As Herschel’s early years were spent chained up without socialization, he struggled in his new home for the next six months. According to Michelson Founding Animals, Herschel needed a devoted home, so they called Rocky Kanaka, the show’s host. This program gives rescued dogs a nice day out.
He also took Rocky to play in the snow, and Rocky enjoyed it! Rocky bought Herschel a lot of delicious food, including a dog cupcake.
While they were traveling, Rocky stopped at a beach to let Herschel see the ocean for the first time. As they walked into the sand, Herschel started barking in pure excitement. Rocky was thrilled to see how happy and content she was.
The waves and sand were fun to play in, and Rocky was giggling while he enjoyed the warm water.
For all I know, he might swim to San Diego, so I won’t let him leave. With all he has gone through, this adorable puppy deserves to spend as much time in the ocean as he wants. He is happy to live in Los Angeles with his mother, where he has unlimited access to the ocean. Despite everything he has gone through, he can’t seem to get enough of it!
Herschel remains a wonderful dog despite the trauma he endured. Check out his video below to learn more about him and see him enjoying the water.
