A pet getting adopted is one of the best moments for an animal shelter, especially if they have been with the shelter for quite some time.
Having spent a year in a shelter after being rescued from being put down after spending a year in a shelter, Major finally saw that day.
ABC Chicago reported that Major and his brother Hilo were saved by the Naperville Area Humane Society from being euthanized in Quincy, Illinois.
As a result of being taken in by the shelter, both dogs had difficulty finding homes. In spite of Major’s playful, energetic, and treat-motivated nature, the humane society said that he shouldn’t live with children, cats, or other dogs, but no one was interested in adopting him for a year.
Despite the odds, the shelter hoped Major would find a home somewhere. They decided to name a holiday after him, “Major’s Day,” in order to highlight the long-term shelter dogs who are still waiting for their forever homes.
Major’s adoption was announced by the Naperville Area Humane Society 372 days after he entered the shelter.
During the video, the shelter staff converge outside to bid Major farewell, and the sweet dog says goodbye to them all as well. Major leaves the shelter with his new owner, who is a semitruck driver. In the truck, Major begins his new adventure, one that will take him around the country for the rest of his life.
NAHS wrote that they “couldn’t be more excited to celebrate another long term resident walking out the doors.”
“We can’t wait to see where the road will be taking you Major.”
Thank you so much, Major! We hope he’s going to have a wonderful life traveling around the country with his new family.
