A teacher anticipates seeing kids, buses, and the commotion of a new day when she goes to work in the morning. It is unusual for an elementary school in Houston, Texas to see a dog waiting outside its main entrance. That is exactly what happened. Upon arriving at his workplace one morning, Caleb Schaffer found a beautiful dog waiting for him. As Schaffer walked by the dog, he could not stop thinking about the Lab mix outside the school building, which led him to return to find out if anything had changed, but unfortunately, the dog was gone. He had to go to class, so he walked by the animal.
Animal control was unsuccessful in catching the dog. The next morning, the dog was once again at the entrance, and Schaffer spotted him. He repeated his actions, and the dog vanished once more later on. It was clear that he noticed the dog’s horrendous skin and how he whined and clawed at it. Schaffer finally took action on the third day when the dog arrived.
When he called the dog in, the hound climbed directly into the car with him as he walked to his car. Since Schaffer could not maintain him, he returned home with his wife to work. Although there were no rescue organizations available to take him in, he tried contacting a number of them. None had room for him. After being given a basic bath and basic care, he was given to a local animal shelter.
Thankfully, Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption saw the video and arranged for a foster home for Clive. Schaffer tells the story to his students. He named him Clive, and shared his pictures with Urgent Shelter Pets of Houston on Facebook. According to his interview with The Dodo, there are a lot of strays around here, so I’m able to discuss spaying, neutering, heartworm prevention, and shelter life.
