Whenever a dog goes missing, it can be heartbreaking, but we must never lose hope. Sometimes dogs return to us years or even months after they had disappeared. Recently, one family got a miracle after their elderly dog returned to them after three years apart. A good Samaritan picked up Binky, aka Mr. B, 18 years old, last month at Dorchester Paws, an animal shelter in South Carolina. Despite his poor condition, Binky got shaved, had a medical workup, and received a life-saving treatment from the shelter. A Facebook post from the shelter claimed Binky was matted, malnourished, covered in fleas, and had overgrown nails.
When they scanned Binky’s microchip to identify his owner, they discovered that Binky had been missing for three years! Upon hearing that their old dog had been found, the family was reportedly in “utter disbelief”: their miracle had finally come true. “They were absolutely devastated when he wasn’t found, as they did everything they could but had no luck in findinghim,” Dorchester Paws wrote. “All they hoped for was for him to be found and scanned. They waited by the phone for years, waiting for the phone call.”
In the end, Binky was going home after being in a shelter for three years. A volunteer drove the dog six hours to meet his family. “Tears were had by all, as this impossible journey was completed, Mr. B can rest peacefully with the family that rescued him from a shelter all those years ago.” He’s old in dog years, but we’re confident he’ll enjoy spending the rest of his days with his family again. This heartwarming story emphasizes the importance of microchipping your pets. “Microbits are the most effective way to reunite a lost pet with its family,” Dorchester Paws writes.
