The pit bull was sitting by herself on a railroad track when a woman found it. As the woman approached the dog, it ran away from her as soon as she got close to it. It had been raining and its coat was covered in mud. It had a choke collar and a chain tied around its neck.
After trying to get close to the frightened dog, the woman said it might have been abandoned or neglected. It was evidently afraid of the dog since it was starved from neglect, shaking in the cold, and had been waiting outside for a long time. As the woman recounts, her friends finally helped her save the dog, who did not appear to be approaching her.
A veteran rescuer was able to calmly get a leash around the panicked dog after four hours of trying. The dog was near hysterical, and it took her four hours to get free. She was unable to escape because of the panicked animal. There was no other choice but for her to lie peacefully.
The puppy was so traumatized, and the rescuer sat down with her and tried to calm her before touching her. Pittie Cardi was named after Cardi B because she didn’t want the frightened Pit Bull to lash out. After she realized that these women wouldn’t hurt her, she finally let go, letting her body relax.
She realized things were about to change when she allowed a kind man to hold her after being rescued by the rescuers.
It was the first night that Cardi met her foster parents and her foster father decided to sleep on the floor with her. She felt scared and uncertain and he sensed her fears. He lay with her for six hours, and then told his wife, “This is my puppy.”
