93-year-old Sally is an adorable neighbor to Brody and he has been enchanted with her since day one. It was love at first sight for Brody the Saint Bernard. Brody and Sally have such a special bond that sometimes he will wander over to see what she’s up to three or four times a day!
In just a few hours after settling in with his new family, Brody met Sally. “I had just given him a bath, and I went in the house and he was gone,” said Brody’s dad, Dave.
After searching their house, they found no sign of Brody. He had snuck next door to neighbor Sally Reenhorn’s residence. Since the 93-year-old lives alone, and doesn’t have a dog of her own, she didn’t have any dog treats on hand. So she worked with what she had, and fed the fetching boy some stale bread. But Brody didn’t mind. He gobbled it right up, and even asked for more.
As a matter of fact, you’ll not believe it, to this day, he won’t take dog food from me! He only wants bread!” Sally explained. Brody has made it his mission ever since he was 12-weeks-old to sneak away and see his sweet friend Sally, which he has been doing since he was 12-weeks-old. Once Brody gets there, he just puts his big furry paws up on Sally’s window and waits until Sally sees he’s here.
The two of them watch television together sometimes. Other times, he follows her outside as she tends to her stunning garden while he follows her around. Then, when Sally suffered a heart attack, leaving her furry best friend in an assisted living facility, and the difficult decision had to be made, his sadness was overwhelming.
Sally didn’t stop running next door or putting her big burly paws on her window. Four months after she left, the dog kept on running. The dog would just go over there every day, but there were no treats left, so he would just lay around on the porch and fall asleep.
In fact, Brody wasn’t going to forget Sally, even after she had moved away. So they began taking him on weekly trips to see his long lost best friend.
