Having to live on the streets is challenging for any animal, much less one who is pregnant. Luckily, this mama’s rescue came at the perfect time because she was about to give birth. As she nursed her newborn babies, she even allowed rescuers to hold her paw, but many mamas guard their puppies fiercely. Her five beautiful babies were born in the safety of a shelter when Kerry, the mother, was found hiding under a car. Mama Kerry, we say, was extremely pregnant and was mere days away from giving birth.
Hearts & Bones Rescue group in Texas was thrilled to help this amazing mama welcome five precious puppies into the world. Hearts & Bones Rescue’s Katherine Hieber says Kerry and her puppies settled right in. She has a strong character and seems happy to have a safe place to raise her puppies.
Cork, Clare, Carlow, Tipperary, and Roscommon were all born healthy and adorable, and Kerry was delighted to live life on the streets and to be supported and surrounded by so much love. In contrast to many new dog moms who fear humans approaching their puppies, Kerry welcomed them. Can you believe it? Not many dogs even like their paws to be touched, let alone when they are getting care for newborn puppies! She was so happy to finally feel safe and receive so much affection that she even asked to have her paw held while nursing.
“Kerry is extremely affectionate, so if you’re around, she’ll kiss you or shake your paws to show that she loves being close to you. She is very trusting and hasn’t been overly protective. Katherine explains that she lets us handle her puppies so we can weigh them and make sure everyone is growing up healthy.
As you can see, mama Kerry seems very comfortable, and it is clear she is surrounded by people she can trust. She is extremely fortunate to have been rescued by such caring individuals.
