There are now 21 Great Dane puppies in a mother dog’s litter, after she gave birth to them in 27 hours.
Owner Tanya Dubbs, Pocahontas, Virginia, expected a large litter when Namine, a 2-year-old Great Dane, became pregnant. As per WVVA, Namine was expected to have about 13-14 puppies, which is typical for large dog breeds.
Throughout the day, Namine gave birth to more and more puppies.
Tanya told WVVA that they got up to 16 and then she had another one. “I was sitting on the bed with her, talking to a friend, when I heard a gush of fluid, and I looked over and said, “We have another puppy.”.”
In 27 hours, Namine had given birth to 21 puppies. There were 24 puppies in the largest litter of dogs ever recorded by Guinness World Records.
Unfortunately, not all survived: two puppies died shortly after birth. Namine, the “supermom”, was still busy taking care of the other 19 puppies.
When the puppies are old enough to ween off their moms, the owner plans to sell them to new homes, and will donate the money from the first pup to the Tazewell County Animal Shelter.
It’s amazing how many puppies there are in that litter! Congratulations to Namine! We hope she gets some well deserved rest soon!
