In the aftermath of a devastating house explosion, everyone thought Teddy the cat had died. Then, a week later, a miracle happened.
During a gas explosion on March 13, a Swansea, Wales, house collapsed and neighboring homes were damaged, according to Wales Online.
As a tragic consequence of the explosion, 68-year-old Brian Davies also died. In a difficult time for Brian’s family and friends, and those injured in the explosion, our thoughts remain with them,” said Detective inspector Carl Price.
A few others were miraculously saved: Claire Bennett and her son Ethan, as well as their puppy and cat Fern, were rescued from the wreckage.
The family feared another pet, a ragdoll cat named Teddy, might have perished in the explosion.
A search for Teddy was conducted in conjunction with Swansea Cats Protection and South Wales Police after the cat was later spotted by the Llys Nini RSPCA.
As a result of dangerous conditions in the surrounding homes and restricted access, the rescue was difficult. Eventually, on Sunday, the RSPCA was able to locate and trap Teddy, who was dusty and “a little cross,” but otherwise unharmed.
In the aftermath of the explosion, Claire had just been released from the hospital and was happy to discover that her cat was alive and well.
The RSPCA said there were “tears all around” as the family were reunited with their cat. “This story has been followed by thousands of well wishing Teddy fans and everyone is so glad of the outcome,” they wrote on Facebook.
The rescue also said they were “providing a safe haven” for other pets displaced by the fatal explosion.
The house explosion was a tragedy, but we’re glad the unexpected survival of Teddy could bring some hope and light to those affected.
What a miracle. We’re so glad Teddy survived and was reunited with his family. A silver lining after this disastrous explosion.
