A sheriff’s deputy went above and beyond his duty to comfort an injured dog in another heartwarming photo. Police officers are responsible for looking after their communities not just for the people, but also for their animals. Osceola County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Fiorelli arrived at an accident scene where a car struck a dog in December 2018. His only companion was by the dog’s side. He called animal control, but as he waited he felt compelled to do something extra special for the dog. Fiorelli told WFTV that, because it was cold and wet outside, he decided to be the person to take care of her.
It was kind of him to wrap a coat around the dog and tuck her in with pets. She appreciated it. In spite of the fact that she had been hurt, she did not become defensive at all. She accepted my attempts to pet her and take care of her.” Despite not doing it for attention or publicity, Fiorelli was heralded as a hero after a bystander snapped a picture of the touching scene. “We thank Deputy Fiorelli for his compassion and care,” the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office wrote.
“It takes a special person to be so compassionate to comfort this injured dog,” one person commented. This dog was brought to Osceola County Animal Shelter with a dislocated leg, but she was expected to recover fully. She underwent surgery. A microchip would have been helpful if she had been claimed, but it is unclear if that happened or if she was adopted. She was fortunate to have a kindhearted person at her side when she needed one most.
As Fiorelli told WFTV, his new friend needs to find a good home and be microchipped: “Keep an eye on them. You may only know them for a short while, but you have a huge impact on them.”.
